The Baronscourt Estate shoot is one of the oldest shoots in Northern Ireland, and enjoys a reputation of being one of the finest in the island of Ireland. The ethos and ambiance on the shoot is for our guests to have a challenging, fun, and sporting time. Our passion for the sport is in our DNA and is manifested by our attention to detail and impressive professional team. The game keepers have a collective experience of over 80 years on the Estate. The shoot is managed by the Head Keeper, Stephen Pollock, who has worked on the Estate for 20 years, assisted by his sister, Jeanette, 15 years, and father, Sammy with over 40 years. The beating team are a vital ingredient which makes each shoot day possible as well as the team of dog handlers that pickup the birds. All the game shot is sold to the local restaurants and hotels and is highly prized on their menus.
The pheasants are released mid-summer, and are well-feathered from the start of the shooting season, early October. All of the pheasant are bred on the Estate and are created from a varied blood line to produce vigorous flyers.
The driven game shoot takes place over approximately 2,000 acres in the centre of the Estate. The drives are a varied combination of woodlands, together with strategically located game crops of kale and artichokes. Several drives overlook at least one of the three lakes located in the Baronscourt valley. Each of the 18 drives has its own specific characteristics, all offering great sporting opportunities for both pheasant and duck.
